RE: Upset with speed of updates.
@jlangeblom
We are really sorry about all the delays with the update for Anki. The update to the newest version is being worked on. We are not abandoning Anki as we said multiple times in the past, we will have the two options of using Anki or our SRS. For a lot of people Anki is just too much to get into and our SRS will allow those people to get the same benefits but with less hassle. There are also things we just can't do with Anki.As for the Firefox version of the browser extension, we never made any promises as to when we will be able to do this. Our stance has always been that we want to eventually export to other browsers beside Chromium based ones, but no time commitment as to when. For now, supporting multiple browsers is just not feasible for a small team like ours.

RE: Japanese parsing missing alot
@learning_japanese
That is not a problem of the parser. Its from the bracket removal. The bracket removal has problems when there are multiple brackets in a line. It removes everything between the first open bracket and the last closing one.
I think Lucas is aware of that, but I will tell him again to make sure.

RE: Popup dictionary tells me to visit website to learn how to add local audio files.
@ol-dustin
If you use the chrome store version, then there is no way to add the folder. Word audio can still be played if you double click on a word after parsing. The problem with the audio button in the pop up will be fixed and probably just use the same source as the double click version. -
RE: New add on installed but no syntax buttons or anything in card editing.
@ol-dustin
That means you havent set up the card type. I would just recommend switching over to the new "Migaku Japanese" card type that got added with the new addon. This one is already set up and you have nothing to do. It also has a few cool features and is basically a 4 in 1 card type from the old ones.
If you do want to use the old cards, you have set them up once.

@clowdy-howdy Ok ok. This will change your mind. Have you considered waifus?

RE: Wrong syntax when inserting from Dictionary.
@evka
That has to do with the parser. I am collecting errors like that and the guys will hopefully find the time to improve on it. -
RE: Wrong word in browser extension, creating a flashcard
@civilwar45
Not exactly sure. But looking at your word field, the extension thinks that all of those are unknown to you. The extension tracks your known words and whenever you export a sentence it tries to look up all unknown words (that the extension thinks are unknown to you) and adds them to the word field and looks them up.
You are trying to export a specific word and without marking words as known, you are kind of working against the system.You can see what the extension thinks you known and don't know when you parse a text with learning status enabled. All unknown words are underlined in red.
Currently there is no way to ignore this feature, as a lot of the extension is build on the idea that you go through your content and mark words as known and unknown. We will give users the option tho to ignore this and just create cards.
If you export a sentence, do it with the tab mode enabled and post a picture, so I can be sure.

RE: add audio to existing cards?
@anon-2po
Yes, that is possible with the Anki addon, but due to some troubles with Forvo, it has problems with anything above 5 cards. So for now its not realy that useful. -
RE: Extension can't connect to Anki
@anon-2qe
Do you have a Firewall or similar active that could block communication? Other Anki addons could also be a cause. -
RE: Upset with speed of updates.
@anon-pm
Don't worry I understand those concerns. We are well aware of of those problems too. Be it communication, speed of updates or similar. And obviously also the concerns regarding Anki.
Hopfully we can leave those behind with the reworked-extension and once this current phase is over -
RE: Readlang Parsing Incorrect
@tonycatalano
I assume that something on the side is interfering with the parsing or the other way around. I don't think that there is much that can be done right now. -
RE: Upset with speed of updates.
@anon-pm
"People have had concerns about the future of Anki support for a while and it hasn't really been addressed. "I don't know if you are in our Discord or not, but this has been adressed multiple times and in many posts. Yes, we will continue to support Anki.
The reason the roadmap is currently not visible is that a lot shifted here, due to some changes in the team and as we are currently in kind of a transition period we can't give exact roadmaps. We will add it again once this shift is over thought.
We are also painfully aware that our responses are often pretty slow. We are a small team and are constantly putting in a lot of effort working on this project. We do try to improve things and if possible also want to hire a community manger/support in the future. The forum often ends up getting a bit neglected, but we are much more active on Discord. So if you are not on Discord yet, I do recommend that you join.
As for whether we asked to community or not, we got a lot of feedback. From users and from test users and our drop off just in the test period is extremely high, due to the difficulties of using and setting up the extension. Which is in part due to the extension itself, but also due to how Anki works, which is something we cannot change. As I said in the previous post, there isn't that much more that can be done in Anki itself to make improvements. Most of those will come in the extension, which is currently being worked on with the reworked extension. That is why there is no mention of Anki in the roadmap above. A lot of what is mentioned on there are improvments to the extension itself (parsing improvements, new streaming site support, etc.). And the next ones are for the mobile app, which a ton of people have asked for as it would just allow to use the same features on mobile. Migaku OCR is independent of any SRS as it will probably be a standalone at first and then integrated into the extension (although the OCR had to be moved back a bit). The catalog as well is independent from Anki or our SRS as it will be a way to filter for shows, books etc. based on your known words.
As for the improvements that can't be done in Anki, just to name some:
- Instand learning status updates
- Leech handling
- How card learning works (eg. our SRS automatically allows for batch learning)
- Repping in the browser extension
- Card count and direct access in the pop up
Again, we are sorry for the current lack of updates (although we just posted one on discord for the extension). The big thing that is currently in the works is the reworked extension as the current one just has a lot of problems as it never was intended to grow that big. A lot of groundwork had to be layed in the background. But I am not the best person to ask this as I am not a programmer. If you are curious you can ping "Saxon" on Discord he can tell you a bit about it.

RE: Card with texts in square brackets
@anon-15r
Then you have to go into the card creator of the dictionary window and uncheck this box for the respective field.
Just be warned that this will remove the syntax, which depending on the language adds several features to cards.

The subtitles for the video have to be imported. When you hover over a video, in the top right corner you will see two buttons, where you can do so. -
RE: Word detection + usability
@chrissikek
A thing to add for YouTube. The extension cannot (yet) do OCR on hard subs (subs that are in the video itself). On YouTube or Netflix soft subs are used to create cards (the subs that you can turn on and off on YouTube). If you want to look for videos on YouTube that have soft subs that you can use, you can do so with https://youglish.com/japanese.
You can just look for any word and then click through the videos and find one you want to create cards from.
Here an example of a video that has soft subs you can use with the extension: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZySfwnh5eA&list=PLcm5I05IhDpZ498c_knWUqznpVUUyvgu1&index=4&ab_channel=γγγγ©γ³γγ³γ°As for the second point, I would need to see some examples. As @Daichi said, the parses for all languages need some work, but it is far from what you seem to describe. There are small errors here and there. But 90% of sentences are parsed fine. Do you maybe have an example with screenshot etc.?
EDIT:
Didn't see the image. Can you give the link to the article? This seems like a problem with the specific site you are using and not the parser per se.EDIT2:
Checked the article from the link I can see in your screenshot. Yes, that is a problem with that specific site. The build in furigana on the site interferes with the extension. The same article on the normal NHK site, parses ε’γγ¦γγ fine (see screenshot). https://imgur.com/a/nUCxIXU -
RE: Upset with speed of updates.
@jlangeblom
I think most of whats in store for Anki in terms of development is mostly bug fixes as all the ideas we have for improving the SRS experience for users are not possible with Anki. But that is outside of my expertise as I am not a developer.I think most of the improvements in terms of usability for the current users can be gained with improvments to the browser extension. And the work on the re-worked extension is in full swing, with a lot of improvments to sentence detection, parsing and what not. Thats mostly the stuff we posted in the #project-updats channel.
