I spent the better part of my first day using Migaku trying to figure out why all of my cards were coming with Cantonese transliterations (I'd missed the unnamed setting in the top-left corner of the dictionary view, which is set to Cantonese by default), so this has been frustrating for me.
Even after using it a lot more, whenever I switch onto a side project languages the amount of dropdowns I have to change (plus the hard-to-detect consequences if I miss one) make this prohibitively hard.
If I want to switch languages I have to:
- Change the language in the MIgaku settings
- Change the unlabelled dropdown in the top-left corner of the dictionary
- Change the note type in the dictionary menu
- (usually, because of my Anki deck structure) Change the Anki deck I'm saving to in the dictionary menu
Why not just save a set of dictionary settings for each of the selections in the browser extension settings?
Every time I switch from one language to another I'm going to flip those next 3 fields pretty much without fail, so having the app just keep track of them for every language would save me (and newer users who aren't used to these quirks) a lot of headaches.
Even if you don't get this fully working, please at least change the top-left corner dropdown in the dictionary menu so it always displays--my dictionary window was small enough that it didn't pop up by default and it took me AGES to find, and I'm pretty sure if I had a lower res screen I just would never be able to see it.
