Thanks for the reply. Downgrading down to the previous version of Anki for mac silicon, anki-2.1.58-mac-apple-qt6.dmg, seems to have solved the issue.
I was also getting an error for the Kanji God add on of something along the lines of 'Bad CPU error'

I just installed and am getting this error:

Downloading ffmpeg failed.

It is required for converting media files during card creation.

Please make sure that you are connected to the internet and restart Anki.

ffmpeg only has to be downloaded once.
