Audio synch issues on Netflix when Recording Enabled
-
@level-up Hi guys, I still really appreciate what you do and I know bug hunting is a bit of a nightmare when you can't reliably replicate it yourself.
I've had this issue on MacOS and Windows.
With Spanish and Japanese.
After installing and reinstalling, messing with padding, messing with hardware accelation and turning the recording on and off again.I would love to continue to support you but the devs in my old company including myself were laid off recently and it's meant that I can't afford to support a product or project that I can't use for its intended purpose when money is so tight.
I still have good words for you and would recommend people try out a trial of your software because it may work for them but unfortunately with how things are I'm going to have to let it go.
I've been with Migaku since the beginning and it's been wonderful to see you guys grow as a team and a company. I love this software. The card creation is the bee's knees and it's going to be a lot less fun without it but it's very frustrating to deal with syncing issues and I can't get past it.
I find that this happens often when I set the mode to reading or if I skip the silence between lines by having the video speed up but it can happen when everything is set to the defaults as well. Sometimes it gets stuck on a line and keeps replaying that line and won't skip past it. Sometimes no matter what lines I choose to create a card from it skips back to a line. Other times I can get around this by creating a card from multiple lines but this doesn't always work either. I've noticed this happens on some TV shows but not all. On some Netflix shows this bug happens consistently on the same lines so it's definitely something funky with Netflix's stuff but I don't know how your software works so I couldn't really say how. I've never experienced this on YouTube but I do prefer Netflix.
If this gets fixed I'll be back when I have a new job. I want to see you guys succeed but I hope you understand that I can't afford it anymore but Instill appreciate your hard work. All the best guys, thank you for the support and value you have provided me with for a good two years! Well done on the successful round of funding and the new projects, it can only mean good things for your future.
I hope you all have a lovely holiday period and an even better new year. I really mean this when I say I wish you all the best. Thank you guys for everything. - Level Up

Can someone give a timeline to solving this? I would like to start using Migaku, but am extremely hesitant due to this bug being left unfixed for a long time, and because there have been no responses from the team in many months.

I just signed up for the trial and immediately got out of sync audio on Japanese Netflix using Chrome on a Macbook pro. It's pretty severe and not usable as it is.
I verified that monitoring mode is off in Netflix, as is hardware acceleration in Chrome. The problem disappears after I turn off recording.
-
Any update? I have had this problem for months now. Mac + Chrome, + Netflix. I posted about this recently with no response.
-
As an update to my previous post, I want to note that you can see the desync happen the second recording is enabled. The video will continue playing as normal, but the audio will briefly cut. Once the audio comes back it will be out of sync. Similarly, you can pause the video and the audio will continue playing briefly after the video playback has stopped.

Is this actively being worked on? I'd argue that this is a critical issue as it directly impacts the enjoyability of immersion when using Migaku. This does not only impact Netflix, it impacts YouTube as well. The fact that I am able to reproduce it across both strongly suggests that the issue lies with Migaku. If you are unable to reproduce the issue, then I'd be more than happy to set up a remote debugging session, but seriously 5 months is an extremely long time for a bug like this to remain in production.
System Info
- Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 1700X Eight-Core Processor
- RAM: 16.0 GB
- OS: Windows 10 Pro
- Browser: Chrome 103.0.5060.134
When does the issue occur?
Whenever Allow Recording is enabled. Reproducible on both Netflix and YouTube.
-
any update on this? just signed up for migaku and sad to see how buggy it is (primarily this issue is disappointing)
-
I just changed my Netflix plan from standard to premium and then encountered this problem. I don't know if this is the cause.
OS: macOS 12.4
Chrome: 103.0.5060.53 (Official Build) (arm64)
Netflix:- Premium plan
- Test participation: off

Hi, I'm having a similar issue. When I play the video, the subs are synced to the audio and video fine. When I press the button to create a card, it goes back to a few lines that came before it and will start recording the audio for that.
I also sometimes encounter an issue where it will get stuck on a subtitle line and repeatedly play it, using arrow keys to skip forward does not work and using the browser to skip past it works sometimes.
I have turned off software acceleration and Netflix testing but to no avail. I was on skip mode but turned it off in the hopes that it would work. No luck.
In good faith, I'm happy to let you see it from my computer if you ever want a live example as I do dev work for my day job as well and I know it's hard to debug an issue without being able to replicate the issue. I only use this machine for games and immersion time now anyway. No worries if not! I recently wiped my machine a couple of months back and installed this fresh last week, so it's the first time I've encountered this. I haven't tested migaku on other platforms such as youtube yet.
Really amazing to see a passion project turn into a product that helps so many people. I'm rooting for you guys! Thanks for all of the hard work so far! I can't state enough how much I appreciate what you do.
My basic specs are:
OS: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro (version 10.0.19044)
Chrome:- Version 102.0.5005.115 (Official Build) (64-bit)
- Hardware acceleration OFF
Netflix: Test Features OFF

@anon-na Are you using Chrome?
It looks like an issue above was caused by using Microsoft Edge browser instead of Chrome browser.
-
This post is deleted! -
Can you provide any update on this? This makes the experience unusable, and I will be requesting a refund as I just purchased.
I'm on MacOS and the audio delay is CRAZY the moment you turn audio-recording on.
The last comment was from February??? @KieranMigaku

@anon-75
Yeah even tho they use the same base, there are still some things that break with browsers other than google chrome -
@stevimigaku it appears to work in Chrome. I am going to set up the Chrome extension to match the Edge extension (same dictionaries and such) to see if it something along the way breaks it. If not then I'll just use Chrome when making cards
-
@anon-75
Did using Chrome change anything?
Other thing that comes to my mind is hardware acceleration. Turning it off. -
@stevimigaku I've disabled this feature and the issue still remains.
-
@anon-75
In Netflix if you go into your account settings there one of the first points is test participation. This should be off. -
@stevimigaku what is "Test participation in Netflix"? Haha. I am using Edge, which runs on Chromium. I can try Chrome but I haven't found an extension that behaves differently between the two yet. Let me find something on YouTube to try.
EDIT:
YouTube appears to work fine. -
@anon-75
Ok that sounds a bit different. Generally the issue is that once recording is enabled, the audio distorts or gets out of sync.
Have you tried with other shows on Netflix, or YouTube? You are using Chrome and Test participation in Netflix is turned off?Yes, the extension isn't open source.
-
@stevimigaku it's possible that I am still misunderstanding this.
If I go to the show with recording disabled, run the parser and everything, and then click attempt to create a card it tells me I need recording to be enabled.
At this point, I enable recording and click to create the card and it records the previous line of audio (though the rest of the info on the card is correct).
Disabling/re-enabling the recording feature doesn't change this behavior.
It really seems to be an off-by-one error when scanning to the correct timestamp in the video, as it is always, consistently the previous line. No matter which line I click on, I get the previous line's audio in full.
This extension isn't open source, correct? I'm curious about how this could be going wrong in the code as I've never made something on the web where timestamps are treated differently across browsers/devices.
