Generating stories in target language with ChatGPT

Has anyone tried using ChatGPT for language study? This seems like potentially a huge opportunity.
It generates grammatically correct and reasonably coherent stories in English, so I would assume other languages would not be much worse. I ran a simple experiment today and the results look promising:

Please write a story in Japanese about studying foreign language which only uses the thousand most common Japanese words. Don't include the furigana.

私は大学で外国語を勉強していました。最初はとても難しく、わからないことがたくさんありました。でも、先生は私たちにたくさんの助言をくれました。
私は毎日勉強するようになりました。辞書を使って、単語を覚えました。そして、本を読んで、自分で文を作りました。
やがて、外国語が少しずつわかるようになりました。先生が私に、もっと話す練習をするように勧めてくれました。私は、友達と話したり、インターネットで人と話したりするようになりました。
今は、外国語が得意になりました。私は留学することもできます。外国語を勉強してよかったです。

With the announcement of GPT-4 it seems the specificity/complexity of queries have been greatly increased. You can potentially generate custom stories which include only the words you know, or the words you know and the words you are learning.
